The band spawned out of the collective of groups that gathered around the Bristol-based Planet Records label in the early 90s, including Flying Saucer Attack, Third Eye Foundation, Crescent and Hood. In recent years, Movietone have gained a cult following as their music has found its way to a new generation of fans - tracks from Day and Night have been gradually populating NTS tracklists and their eponymous debut was reissued by World of Echo in 2023.
